IGNORANCE IS BLISS!
My first large parade with my newly acquired Miniature Horse "Scotch" was at the Mayville, N.Y. Fourth of July Parade on Chautauqua Lake a few years ago.
I had my two young grandaughters Hannah from Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jenny from Jamestown, New York on each side of me as we proceeded along the parade route, when one of them remarked Grandma, I'm so proud!
Scotch was a very reliable driving horse for a novice like myself, but I was unprepared for the reality of all the commotion! The parade went well amidst all the firecrackers, bands and usual noises of a parade and remarkable Scotch remained calm and carried us with ease along the route.
On the return trip we had to use a back road which took us to the top of a steep hill and then the fun began! They let the traffic out and we were sandwiched between Semi's, Motorcycle's and Car's, all eager to get out of the congestion.
For the sake of the girls and some silent prayers, I remained calm and confident (while my stomach churned) and was amazed at my new Minis ability. Had I known the vulnerability of the situation, would I have dared? The answer is no but what an amazing experience for my grandaughters and much to my surprise, a month later we received an award for $50. It surely was worth all the preperation in decorating the cart and getting ready.
So you see. Minis are smart and capable of many things!
